Abstract:
The purpose of this course conclusion work is to analyze and reflect critically on the role
and work of the Social Assistant, in the sphere of the National Health Policy, in the face
of a neoliberal configuration, which will thus intervene and hinder health in our society.
Thus, it was of great importance to report the construction and challenges of the Unified
Health System (SUS), which in this study will address both the challenges of health policy
both before and after this System. From the perspective of colonial Brazil, until the
beginning of the Lula government, thus highlighting in this timeline, the construction of
health as a social policy and a right for all. We will also highlight the difficulties of the
SUS in the midst of the two competing projects, which are the Health Reform and the
Privatist Project, which will be of great influence for the SUS. This discussion, being
critical, also proves to be fundamental to recognize the difficulties of insertion of social
workers in the health area, especially given the current challenges that these
professionals face in this dynamic field. Given this context, it is essential to mention the
competencies and responsibilities of Social Workers in health policy. The methodology
of this work consists of bibliographical research, based on books, scientific articles and
legislation, which gave guidance to the writing. Thus, the first chapter was extremely
important to the author BRAVO (2006) and (2013), MIOTO AND NOGUEIRA (2015) were
also of great importance. Therefore, in the middle of the second chapter, SILVA (2017)
stands out, as well as GUEDES (2016), CFESS (2010), MARTINELLI (2011). In the third
and final chapter, the others already mentioned were used. For the idea of this work, we
started from the experience of the supervised internship in the health sphere, in a
hospital environment, in a Regional Hospital in the backlands of Paraíba, which took
place in the year 2023, exactly, this critical discussion becomes essential to understand
the difficulties faced by /social workers when entering the health sector, especially given
the constantly evolving challenges in this dynamic field. In this sense, it is essential to
highlight the specific competencies and responsibilities of social workers in health policy.
These competencies include not only the ability to evaluate and intervene in social issues
that affect people's health, but also the ability to promote social participation, to develop
and implement inclusive public policies and to act in an ethical manner and committed
to the principles of social justice and equity. By recognizing and valuing these skills, we
can strengthen the performance of these professionals and enhance their role in
promoting fairer and more accessible healthcare for all.
