Resumo:
This present work proposes to develop an assistant view of the late adoption, its importance before the brazilian social and legal scenario, going through the beginnings of the concept of state assistance up until its present form. Pointing out the main systems in their respective times, the current neglect and how the battle for the covered constitutional rights made big improvements in care, although still far from extinguishing it. Demonstrating the features of the late adoption process, its particularities, revealing its stigmas, prejudices and challenges, as well as all the perfomance and competence of the social worker in the reception centers, and most importantly, his role in the judiciary. Referring to the necessary procedures to propose this type of adoption and its obstacles as regards in strengthening and stimulating the adoption of older children, facing the existing barriers and the struggles for the reversal of existing concepts in children’s profiles, since the specific reality will be the real materialization of the reception by the families in detriment of “alleged preferences”. Based on field research and interviews with social workers which frequently deal with these cases and face the true reality and difficulties in achieving their goals, allied with the responsibilities of families who wish to embrace.
