Abstract:
In semiarid northeast growing environmental degradation has caused increasingly signiicant desertiication processes, bringing
as immediate loss of soil fertility and biodiversity consequences. This study aimed to use the NDVI to study the environmental
deterioration in the municipality of Sumé - PB by temporal analysis of satellite images of medium spatial resolution using
geotechnology. We used Google Earth to select representative ground targets of different vegetation types and conducted ield
visits to georeference and describe the vegetation. Images of LANDSAT 5 of 09/05/1987 and 28/10/2009 were used, and using
ERDAS 8.5, the radiometric corrections were performed and obtained images of radiance and relectance, and NDVI images
generated. Using the SPRING 5.2 were classiied using the LEGAL in 6 classes of vegetation. From the results obtained it was
observed that there was a recovery of vegetation, the increase in class Arboreal sub arboreal dense area of 10.96 % in class Sub
arboreal dense 24.52%, and class Shrub sub arboreal dense 13.7%.
