Abstract:
The present work of course completion develops a study about the social inclusion of people with physical, sensorial, mental or intellectual disability; global developmental disorders; and high-gifted skills that access higher education, specifically at the Federal University of Campina Grande. The theme emerged in view of the small number of disabled students participating in higher education, as well as the difficulty of completing the courses reported in the student assistance of the Pombal campus during the period of supervised training. The reflections presented are based on the research carried out at the Accessibility to Inclusion Center (NAI) based at Campina Grande Campus. In this way, we seek to evaluate the situation of the disability demand in the UFCG, analyzing the inclusive efforts directed by the institution to the top of its attributions and responsibilities. First, the ideas were amplified and a historical rescue was made regarding the structuring bases of our education as a social right, punctuated from the arrival of the Portuguese to Brazil with the Jesuit education implemented, permeating the main historical moments of establishment and promotion of the legal bases of support and management of current Brazilian education, such as the Law of Guidelines and Bases, and the National Education Policy. This work seeks to positively influence the democratic process of insertion of disabled students into quality public higher education, discussing the necessary measures of implementation for admission and stay of students according to their special needs. The research was done through the collection of information developed from a questionnaire applied directly with the Coordinator of the Accessibility Core to Inclusion with headquarters in Campina Grande, and later with the person in charge of administering the extension in NAI allocated in the campus of Cajazeiras.
