Resumo:
The aridity index (AI) is widely used in studies for the determination of dry areas and
especially in studies of desertification. This work aimed to promote the use of geotechnology for
thematic mapping of drought and subsequent desertification classes indices to show the relationship
and dynamic spatiotemporal in microregion of Umbuzeiro-PB. The final maps corresponding to the
IA's and desertification classes were developed using the Software Surfer 10. The municipality of
Umbuzeiro presented the best AI among all the micro-region. In 2015, all municipalities had a
significant decrease in IA for all the years studied, however, that Natuba year stood out when
compared to other municipalities in the micro-region. Possibly the low rainfall, high temperatures and
the local topography directly influence the AI micro-Umbuzeiro, as well as climate phenomena as
ENSO example.
