Resumo:
The present work aims to analyze the issue of racial quotas in the Social Sciences course (Campus - Campina Grande) at UFCG. The research is based on the discourses of active students in the course. To support this research, students who used the racial quota as a means to enter the Social Sciences course were interviewed, understanding that by invoking the racial quota, these students must self-declare as Black according to UFCG own guidelines. Non-racial quota students were also interviewed, as the intention of this research is also to know if the students who did not use the racial quota are aware of the Racial Quota Law, whether they are in favor of it or not, and through this, whether the academic environment provides a racial debate for quota students or not. Throughout the research, it was necessary to bring a bit of historical context, since Blacks had late access to institutionalized education, a factor that has consequences to this day, revealing how our educational model is based on the narcissistic discourse of whiteness and meritocracy. Therefore, this work seeks to reflect such issues through the perspective of those who are still part of groups historically seen as minorities and for this reason used the racial quota to enter a higher education institution, in this case, UFCG, and more precisely, the Social Sciences course.
