Abstract:
The main objective of this work is to analyze the Assistance Policy Student within the scope of higher education, for this purpose the indicators were assessed that inform the conditions of accessibility to permanence assistance programs of students from the Federal University of Campina Grande – UFCG. In this way, the access situation was investigated, with emphasis on the difficulties and challenges posed to the process of implementing these programs in higher education in times of
commercialization and precariousness of education. Furthermore, we aimed to identify the limits and possibilities of the professional practice of Social Workers in Politics Student Assistance. The study attempted to build a historical approach to the problematic of higher education in capitalist society, addressing from the elements that inform the genesis of education in Brazil until the current
rearrangements in the role of the State and the determinations imposed by neoliberalism higher education and student aid programs. From this perspective of analysis, it was found that the reform of public higher education undergoes changes and updates its basic structure, in which it presents itself as greater commitment to meeting to economic interests. It is true that in Brazil there was reform university through student support programs and the opening of new higher education courses, however, the necessary conditions for the implementation of this reform, considering that the permanence aid programs to undergraduate education remain fragile and short-term, following the aegis of selectivity. Such limitations present in the Student Assistance Policy constitute numerous challenges for the role of Social Service professionals in the your workspace, among them we can mention selectivity criteria and focusing.
