This dissertation addresses the influence of the Disney industry on the cons truction and evolution of representations of femininity over time, focusing mainly on
Disney Princess characters. The research begins with an analysis of Disney's history,
its cultural impact, and the creation of a "world" that conveys ideologies. The princes ses are highlighted as examples of this process, representing different conceptions of
femininity. The research explores the socio-cultural construction of the imaginary re garding femininity, considering the evolution of the princesses throughout generations.
Classic princesses are associated with passive and submissive ideals, while rebellious
princesses defy norms and seek autonomy. The contemporary generation of princes ses reflects female empowerment and the quest for self-assured, confident individuals
engaging in discussions about gender equality. To understand this dynamic, a des criptive-interpretative analysis of Disney Princess line films was conducted, highligh ting how the representation of femininity has evolved. Additionally, a field study was
conducted at a public school in Paraíba to investigate how children internalize these
gender representations, revealing the influence of Disney princesses on the construc tion of gender identity. The research also emphasized the importance of understan ding romantic love and its influence in society, especially among mothers. In summary,
the dissertation explores the influence of the Disney industry on the construction of
representations of femininity over generations, examining how the princesses have
evolved to reflect social and cultural changes. The field study and analysis of princess
narratives provide insights into how children receive and consume them, internalizing
the gender ideals mobilized in the Disney’s Pincesses Line and how mothers interpret
them and transmit the representations of feminility offered by the movies which are
here focused.
