Abstract:
This final course work aims to describe the educational movements for the deaf in bilingual education at the Escola Cidadã Integral Estadual de Ensino Fundamental e Médio de Audiocomunicação de Campina Grande Demóstenes Cunha Lima, formerly EDAC, based on a time frame from 1994 to 2004, using previously selected photographs as a descriptive corpus. That said, the history of the Escola de Audiocomunicação de Campina Grande (EDAC) began in 1983. This institution plays a significant historical role in teaching people and Brazilian Sign Language (LIBRAS). We aim to select photographs from the history of the former EDAC, building the history of deaf education through the memories of deaf teachers and students. We describe the bilingual educational movements at EDAC, in Campina Grande-PB, carried out in the time frame from 1994 to 2004, based on the name, date, place and activity that took place. The work was developed under a theoretical foundation that includes issues related to the history of deaf education in the world and in Brazil, focusing on the emergence of a bilingual school for the deaf in Campina Grande-PB, as well as the bilingual movement in the education of these deaf people. We anchored ourselves in Deaf Studies because we understand that these are the lenses that best view the issues that contemplate deafness in its entirety. In the research methodology, we used photographs to organize the period from 1994 to 2004. The analysis of photographs allowed us to describe the actions in seven topics: the visit to the zoo, the birth of Jesus, the Christmas presentation, the pedagogical week, the course for mothers, the 4th pedagogical sample and Paraíba games, science classes, the 5th pedagogical sample, the week of internal games, the study trip, the carnival event, dance in diversity, deaf movements and the seminar. We conclude that the study presents several photographic records that help in the analysis of the historical context in the education of the deaf in Campina Grande, as well as the conditions of the educational and social movements of the deaf in EDAC. In addition, the study carried out through the photographic record highlights the relevance of bilingual education for the deaf and the history of education in Campina Grande-PB.
