Resumo:
The purpose of this study was to assess surface runoff
for three soils from the brejo paraibano region by using the methodology of the Simplified Model for Determining Surface Runoff
propossed by MILLAR & LIU (1977). Soils studied were a Litholic
(soil 1), a Red-Yellow Podzolic (soil 2), both from the rnunicipio of Areia, PB, and a Red-Yellow Podzolic (soil 3) from the mu
nicipio of Lagoa Nova-PB. The lowest amounts of surface runoff
under identical conditions of intensity and duration of the rainfall, occurred in soil 2. No significant differences in the
quantities of surface runoff were found between soils 1 and 3
which, because of their lower rates of water infiltration, showed to be more susceptibles to induce drainage and waterlogging problems. Soil 2, on the other hand, exhibited few surface runoff events above 25mm and, consequently, does not create that kind of problems at the same level of severity than do soils 1 and 3.
