In recent decades, there has been an inversion of values in urban mobility policy, when the
focus of municipal management became drivers, to the detriment of pedestrians. In order to
resume the understanding of cities for people, this dissertation aimed to analyze walkability
from the pedestrian's perspective. To this end, three scientific articles were developed. The
first, carries out a bibliometric review, with the aim of verifying studies on walkability models
in the period from 1945 to 2022. In addition to the main characteristics of scientific
production on the subject, the research shows that only 11% of walkability models walkability
found considered the pedestrian's perspective, which served as input for the second article.
The second article evaluated the dimensions and variables to evaluate walkability conditions
in different urban spaces. To this end, a review of the walkability models in WOS was carried
out, allowing the main dimensions and variables of walkability in different urban spaces to be
identified. Understanding the models and the main dimensions and variables for studying
walkability in urban centers, the third article evaluated walkability conditions in the central
region of the city of Campina Grande– PB, from the perspective of pedestrians. The research
showed that the urban function and comfort dimensions were the ones that presented the most
critical points and the connectivity dimensions and route attributes obtained positive
evaluations. The results indicated that to promote walkability and the use of sustainable
means of transport, urban mobility policies aimed at people are necessary.
