Colaboração de mulheres na computação: um estudo de caso no grupo elas@computação da UFCG.

Abstract

Although women play an important role in the development of Computer Science, there is a low female representation in this area. In an attempt to change this reality, some initiatives have emerged. In this sense, Elas@Computação was created in 2017 as an organization formed by undergraduate, graduate and former students of the Computer Science course at the Federal University of Campina Grande/UFCG, with the intention of generating a support network and giving visibility to women in the area. However, despite all the work that the group does, the impacts, who the participants are or why they participate are not analyzed. Thus, the objective of this work is to outline the profile of women who are part of this group to answer these questions. To this end, two quantitative and descriptive studies based on surveys were conducted. The first one, to identify the profiles of undergraduate students differentiated by gender, and the second one, which seeks to extract information about the forms of participation and impact of the group. The results obtained showed that the profiles between genders are similar. Furthermore, the group generates a positive impact on its participants, mainly by providing a strong support network that brings security and confidence through representation.
