Abstract:
Humanity has faced countless challenges throughout its history, with the need to assess, identify and treat the most diverse trauma situations. The PHTLS (2019) defines trauma as an injury characterized by a structural or physiological alteration resulting from the action of an external agent that results in exposure to energy. Trauma-related situations involving means of transportation are recurrent, their impacts affecting several people every year, where the various statistical studies show that automobile accidents appear as one of the main causes of death. Objective: To analyze the epidemiology of automobile traumas in a region of the Paraíba hinterland. Method: This is a descriptive-exploratory analysis of a quantitative nature, using secondary data from the DATASUS platform. The data was analyzed by creating graphs to illustrate the results found, followed by an analysis of the data using the Bardin method, which is a set of techniques for analyzing communications, seeking to achieve and allow the understanding, use and application of the content in an appropriate manner. Results: In 2018 it was found that among the 182 cases of accidents involving transport, the highest incidence occurred among young people aged 20 to 29 (94 incidents). In 2019 there was a reversal in the age at the top of the table, with people aged between 30 and 49 accounting for the majority of cases (92 incidents). In 2020 all cases fell, but victims aged 20 to 29 had the highest incidence (19 incidents). In relation to pedestrians, in 2018 there were 581 hospitalizations caused by accidents involving some type of transport, in 2019 this figure fell to 498 and ended 2020 with 101 hospitalizations. Conclusion: It is clear that car accidents represent a public problem, and it is essential that new studies continue to be produced and that public policies to reduce these events are carried out..
