Abstract:
The sun and sea circuit of offshore Paraíba state is the main tourist attraction, mainly during the
summer time, nowadays the Gramame river is the main Grand João Pessoa water supply resource. Its
river basin is subject to the Brazilina northeastern hydrological regimen, having times of water
scarcity when there is rainwater deficit. This work is concerned with the study of the increasing
tourism flow on the Grand João Pessoa water demand, through three scenarios rates for a twenty year
dta series varying from very dry to very wet hydrological forecast, and its impact on the reservoirs that
support the system. The WEAP simulation program, which is based on water balance of system
having water sources and water demands, was used. The reservoirs volume behaviors were analyzed
under two perspectives: one with the water sources as is nowadays and another with an increase in the
system water availability. The reliability, resilience, vulnerability and sustentability indexes were
determined for both situations. The results have shown that the Gramame-Mamuaba reservoirs are in
their water supply limit for all simulated scenarios. Moreover, the simulation WEAP model performed
well as a tool for water resources management.
