Résumé:
The question of representation is a central theme in the field of history, as it provides
a means to understand how others perceive a particular object while also revealing
their own positions, social background, and definition of the role of history. In this study,
the researcher aims to analyze and discuss the portrayal of the Northeast region and
its inhabitants in Brazilian soap operas. Influential and pervasive, soap operas have
the capacity to depict diverse contexts, particularly regional ones, but they may not
always reflect a place in a way that is consistent with reality. Therefore, this research,
based on the use of documentation in the form of images and dialogue from the soap
operas Porto dos Milagres (2001), Cordel Encantado (2011), and Velho Chico (2016),
will seek to study, from a historical perspective, how the conception of the Northeast is
constructed and used to legitimize stereotypes.
