Resumo:
Institutions of Higher Education (IHEs) play a crucial role in shaping qualified professionals, significantly contributing to the country's development. However, they face challenges that affect their ability to fulfill this role adequately. Efficient management of their resources is one of the most persistent concerns. Many studies evaluate the efficiency of various management aspects through na assessment of the monetary cost associated with different activities. Although having a clear view of these aspects is crucial, it is equally important to consider specific factors, such as the teaching workload of faculty dedicated directly to student formation. Despite significant efforts to optimize this cost, there is a notable lack of studies detailing how the academic trajectory of students affects their cost in the IHE. Understanding how this cost interferes with the institution's efficiency is crucial for taking targeted measures to improve management and optimize available resources. In this work, metrics were proposed to measure the efficiency of 48 undergraduate courses at the Federal University of Campina Grande (UFCG) over an 8-year period regarding the allocation of faculty to teaching activities. As a result of the metrics applied, it can be observed that courses with a low number of entrants, as well as courses with high dropout and retention rates, have a high cost, emphasizing the need to carefully address each of the aspects related to the calculation of the efficiency of the courses analyzed.
