Abstract:
The gender gap represented by a disproportionate representation of men over women, both among new and former students in the exact sciences in Brazil, is a reality that has persisted for centuries. In the Computer Science course at the Federal University of Campina Grande (UFCG), this gap is particularly evident due to the low presence of women, who make up only 16% of new students in recent years. This study is based on the master's dissertation of a student in the UFCG graduate program, who analyzed the performance and trajectory of undergraduate students from a gender perspective. Our goal is to create, based on the data structured and analyzed by this broad study, a series of visualizations that demonstrate the trajectory of these students, incorporating a gender lens, to determine whether this is a determining factor in the academic experience or whether, as a consequence, it also has some influence on the scarcity of women in the Computer Science course.
