Resumo:
Soil is the natural resource for complex, dybanic, excellence, finit, responsible for numerous
functions for maintaining life. Know it on their needs and capabilities is essential for it’s use
happen in a sustainable form. And knowing the understanding of rural peoples, from an
ethnopedological perspective, is essential. This study aimed to analyze the pedologic and
environmental awareness of farmers of Rural Communities Tigre, Santa Rosa, Riacho da Roça,
Angico Torto, Maracajá, Terra Vermelha, (Sumé-PB), in relation to conservation tillage practices.
A questionnaire with 15 semi-structured questions, which dealt with the understanding of soil
quality, conservation practices were applied. Attitudes and perceptions of farmers regarding
designations for good soil and bad soil and for the adoption of conservation practices were
analyzed. The results show that farmers bring own concepts of soils, which mainly refer to visual
and tactile understanding, but are unaware of simple practices to maintain the health of the soil,
like compost. Is a real need for support from the technical advisory bodies to disseminate
technologies and social practices of soil conservation, and point to the need to be implemented
research activities and university extension, where it is possible to interact with these social actors
to avoid environmental degradation in the areas visited, besides introducing the alternative
communities and environmentally sustainable economic activities, enabling residents to develop
them.
