Resumo:
The popularization of soil education is a necessity due to the progress of degradation. The research
aimed to verify the understanding of the students of the public school of Itapetim-PE on the ground . The research
consisted of a semistructured questionnaire, applied to students of the 5th year of elementary school, distributed
in two moments: in the presentation of the proposal and after the didactic lectures and thematic workshop. Initially
the children associated the word "soil" with land and soil or agricultural activities, but they did not know its
characteristics, importance and functions. As for the understanding of practices that degrade the soil presented
distorted visions or did not know how to respond. More than half of the students (65%) said they had never
participated in projects or activities with the soil. During the geotinta workshop the students showed interest and
enchantment for the activity and after this practice their answers were more punctual. It is possible to conclude
that the adoption of participative methodologies contributes to stimulate the learning in the classroom, motivating
and sensitizing the students to the knowledge. The pedagogical practice focused on environmental education and
soil education is an important tool for popularizing the concepts about this valuable environmental resource and
adopting proactive positions for care with nature.
