Abstract

This study investigates the impact of AI Generative tools on the job market for software developers, based on a survey distributed among industry professionals with varying levels of experience. Recently, there has been an emergence of increasingly powerful Large Language Models (LLMs), enabling the development of tools with significant code generation and automatic analysis capabilities across different programming languages. With the rapid advancement in this area, professionals are also becoming increasingly concerned about the implications of task automation and the subsequent reduction in job opportunities within the software development sector. Although the literature extensively discusses this topic, there is a scarcity of studies based on industry professionals' opinions. Insights gathered from our study suggest that these technologies tend to be more effective in simple and repetitive tasks, particularly for novice professionals. Conversely, their effectiveness appears to diminish in more subjective and complex tasks, especially as professional seniority increases. The observed results aim to contribute to a deeper reflection on the impact of these tools on the job market, particularly concerning job availability for entry-level professionals.
