Resumo:
Cnidoscolus urens (L.) Arthur is a species that expresses great potentials. Thus, this plant
population belongs to the Euphorbiaceae family, which is among the most economically
important, besides having social and environmental relevance. This study aimed to analyze
the fresh mass of C. urens seeds from matrices in three municipalities of Cariri Paraibano.
The seeds were collected in April, May and June 2018 in the municipalities of Sumé
(07º40'18 "S, 36º52'48" W, 532 m altitude), São José dos Cordeiros (7°28'13.35 "S,
36°53'51.33 "W, 644 m altitude) and São João do Cariri (7°27'45.60" S, 36°26'26.12 "W,
402 m altitude) in the Paraiban Semiarid. For each municipality 30 matrices were selected.
The seeds were taken to the Laboratory of Ecology and Botany - LAEB/UFCG/CDSA for
screening and a mix was made by municipality for the selection of 100 seeds. The average
fresh mass per municipality is as follows: Sumé – 0.0248 g with variation of 0.011 g to 0.040
g; São João do Cariri 0.0340 g ranging from 0.021 to 0.050 g; São José dos Cordeiros –
0.0401 g ranging from 0.021 g to 0.055 g. The seeds presented variations and the ones collected in São José dos Cordeiros presented the highest average of fresh mass. Therefore,
the registration of information about this species can support actions aimed at strengthening
the field of conservation biology in the context of the Brazilian semiarid.
