The late adoption is one of the many faces of the theme of adoption is a subject of great interest to people suitors adoption and in particular to children and / or adolescents condemned to abandonment in institutions . Should rethink the issue of abandonment in Brazil , where the retention of children and / or adolescents in institutions should be the lowest possible , but only a transition from biological family to foster family , not leaving forgotten by the state and society , and because of his skin color , sex or age ; the shorter the time the institution will be less traumatic for the child's life . The intent of a new law for adoption is to strengthen the importance of family ties and accelerate procedures to prevent further suffering for children and / or adolescents who have been so victimized by the abandonment by various circumstances. The adoption in Brazil is rooted in myths , fears , prejudices and distortions of the true meaning of adoption, especially when it comes to the origin of the child and / or adolescent , which contributes to hinder this process ; regardless of age and life history can forge new bonds with a young family , being essential to the attitude of the adopter to make yourself available , presenting a more active than passive stance , the child needs to feel safe , loved and accepted, requiring certain surrogate family effort , dedication and above all love, because there is a great prejudice against not be possible to build a family bond of affection with older children. One can not help institutions safer for children and / or adolescents in need of a family who welcome them because of selective criteria. The research represents a bibliographic, descriptive study with a qualitative approach, developed in Credendo Vides (Reference Center for Child and Adolescent) in the city of Sousa - PB, with the purpose of knowing the procedures and difficulties for adoption.
