Um folclore açucareiro: o regionalismo de Manuel Diégues Júnior na transição do folclore para a antropologia cultural (1940-1960).

Abstract

The present research aims to analyze the role of Manuel Diégues Júnior (1912-1991) as a cultural mediator of folklore manifestations, between the 1940s and 1960s, in the transition from folklore studies to anthropological studies. From an intellectual history, we seek to identify the way in which this folklorist developed the idea of a sugar folklore based on a regionalist cultural matrix, notably in northeastern society. Methodologically, we established an analysis based on discourse analysis and the idea of knowledge and power relations by Michel Foucault (1999; 2008), problematizing writings produced by Manuel Diégues Júnior about cultural and folklore manifestations, such as books, articles, reviews and letters, published in books, newspapers and magazines, which are available in the Digital Newspaper Library of the National Library and the National Center for Folklore and Popular Culture (CNFCP). From a theoretical point of view, we are based on the concepts of Jean-François Sirinelli (1998; 2003), Angela de Castro Gomes and Patrícia Santos Hansen (2016), Durval Muniz de Albuquerque Júnior (2011; 2013) and James Clifford (2002), using, respectively, the concepts of intellectual; of intellectual mediators; of folklore/Northeast - northeastern folklore; and cultural anthropology to identify Manuel Diégues Júnior's intellectual formation in regionalism and treat him as an intellectual producer of cultural and anthropological mediation around the folkloric manifestations that constituted a cultural idea of Northeastern Brazil in the middle of the 20th century.
