Resumo:
Water is an essential good for life and, together with soil, sustains food
production, ensuring life for all, however, water scarcity and the occurrence of
salt water in most wells in the Brazilian semi-arid region require the adoption of
Measures that enable the provision of good quality water for human consumption
and empowerment of communities. In this scenario, the Água Doce Program was
implemented in several localities, promoting desalination and water quality
improvement, which is used by the settlers, providing income by raising fish and
planting saltgrass (Atriplex nummularia). The research, characterized as a case
study, aimed to analyze the perception of the family farmers of the Settlement
Cachoeira Grande, Aroeiras municipality (PB) on the Fresh Water Project,
regarding the empowerment and quality of life of farmers in the area rural. The
results indicate that the settlers are satisfied with the project, that their life has
improved after the arrival, but some said that it is of the utmost importance that
the construction of more wells for use in agricultural production. The community
works to create fish in solidarity, but with great desire for new investments that
can bring benefits in the development of other activities, such as planting
vegetables, where they could have an extra family income. It is concluded that,
according to the interviewees, although it is a program of high social and
environmental appeal, there is still a lack of investments that add value and
increase the knowledge of the settlers, in order to avoid stagnation in production
during the dry season and promote Improvement in the quality of life of all.
