Resumo:
The term ESG, an acronym for Environmental, Social and Governance, emerged in
2004 at a conference organized by the United Nations with major world representatives
from the financial market and the corporate world, mobilizing the global sphere and all
parties interested in moving the market towards planning and decision-making in the
areas mentioned in the acronym. Water management, a common good for all, is
intertwined with ESG and is more than necessary in industry, one of the sectors that
consumes the most water. In this sense, this dissertation aims to understand the
impacts that the ESG approach, focused on water management, can have on industry,
through a case study in a metal factory in Paraíba, and how public authorities can act
to leverage awareness and formalize actions. Through a broad theoretical overview,
the evolution of ESG practices at a global and national level was explained, as well as
how industries are treating these terms in the management of the water resources they
use and the great virtuous cycle between public and private development, water and
ESG. Through participatory observations by the student who works in the industry
studied and analysis of the reports issued by the company, the overall picture of the
process operated by the industry showed that it continues to take appropriate
measures to comply with practices related to ESG and at the point of a structured
administration regarding issues related to water management, and is susceptible to
improvements, which offer tangible opportunities for further development and
expansion of the company.
