Resumo:
This article aims to analyse grammar classes in order to emphasise the importance of this
study for the language knowledge. We based on studies conducted by Mattoso (2009),
comparing them to the one that defend the Normative Grammar. It is a bibliographic case,
where we use an existing literature for deepening the theme. In addition, this text was
structured in three parts. The first part deals with the positioning of structuralist chain in
relation to the morphology. The second one discusses regarding to the grammatical classes
to the Normative Grammar. The third part is related to the Mattoso?s studies for whom the
division of parts of the grammatical classes are redefined. This study was motivated by
performance while it was developed an activity as a monitor student of Portuguese
Morphology during two semesters. Mattoso (2009) addresses to three basic standards to
classify the formal vocabularies of a language, the morphic, semantic and syntactic, establishing a hierarchy and a homogeneous and indivisible organization between all of
them. Additionally, Mattoso divide the grammatical classes in nouns, verbs, pronouns and
connective words. The traditional grammar, in turn, also use these classification criteria,
however it is used in a non-hierarchical way, focusing in the majority of the time only one
of the criteria. Finally, the grammatical classes on the traditional grammar is divided in ten
groups.
