Resumo:
Family farming and the peasant way of life: practices and challenges at Sítio Mata dos Galdinos
in São João do Rio do Peixe-PB is an agricultural production system that is based on the
management of small properties by families, where family labor plays a central role. The
objective of this work is to investigate the use of Family Farming techniques and other activities
of the peasantry at Sítio Mata dos Galdinos, which is located in the municipality of São João
do Rio do Peixe, in the hinterland of Paraíba, focusing not only on its historical relevance, but
also on the socioeconomic, environmental and cultural implications that this form of agriculture
can have in different contexts. The research began with an extensive bibliographical survey of
data through the review of some works that deal with this topic. The second step was to carry
out a semi-structured interview with members of traditional families in the locality. In addition,
a questionnaire was administered to literate family farmers to understand their peasant culture.
Finally, an analysis of all the data collected was carried out and placed in order with the
criticisms regarding the topic addressed. The results indicate that the use of Family Farming
techniques and the peasant's way of life at Sítio Mata dos Galdinos constitute fundamental
pillars for the sustainability and development of this rural community.
