Abstract:
This study was carried out with the intention to verify the annual recharge to the
sedimentary basin of Rio do Peixe, in the state of Paraíba, and to verify the behavior of the
water level when various sceneries of explotation are considered.
For the elaboration of the study, the program MODFLOW was used as a tool for the
system simulation and the calibration of the recharge. The field data used in the study had
been collected in the whole basin by the group formed by CPRM-UFCG in 7 campaigns
during two years.
In the numerical model the calibration of the hydraulic conductivities, the specific yield
coefficients and the recharge rates of the study area were done by the automatic parameter
estimation program PEST, since there were no pumping test data available.
Hypothetical simulations with an assumed daily pumping rate over 180 days in nearly
200 wells distributed over the basin show that the recharge values are much higher than
supposed the water explotation.
