Resumo:
Most counties of the state of Rio Grande do Sul do not use any type of
traffic counting. Usually, the precarious management standard addopted by the counties
does not ask for such data, which are essential for the optimization of the available funds.
The current traffic counting methods are very costly, therefore, not suitable to be used in
low traffic flow roads as it occurs in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. Then, alternative
methods have been evaluated. The counting method developed by the Transport Road
Research Laboratory; UK, has been chosen mainly because of its simplicity and
applicability.
