Resumo:
Dam construction policies, historically implemented in the Northeastern Semi-Arid region since the Brazilian Empire, have resulted in the construction of several water reservoirs whose primary purpose was to mitigate the effects of severe droughts afflicting the region. A notable example of these initiatives is the Public Dam of Pilões, located between the municipalities of Triunfo and São João do Rio do Peixe in the semi-arid region of Paraíba, Brazil. This study aims to analyze the different environmental impacts occurring within the perimeter of the Pilões dam. The literature review of expert studies was crucial for the theoretical foundation of this research, followed by a cartographic survey using online resources and the creation of aps through QGIS. Additionally, field research played a key role in observing and gathering information necessary for the completion of this study. Based on the results of the analyses, it can be concluded that the main environmental impacts occurring within the dam's perimeter include lack of basic sanitation, water theft, wildfires and deforestation, and mismanagement of irrigation.
