Resumen:
Environmental impacts, as modifiers of the environment, affect not only the environment itself but also the life within it. The need to restore degraded ecosystems is evident. Therefore, this study analyzes the environmental impacts identified in the drainage basin of the "Boqueirão" reservoir in São Bento – PB, Brazil. To do so, the historical, socioeconomic, and natural aspects of the municipality are understood. A bibliographic research and a field study were conducted. The main impacts identified in the study area are related to urban growth based on textile production. Human activities, such as inappropiate disposal of waste and urban and industrial residues, including PET bottles, domestic sewage, and chemicals from textile production, contribute to the deterioration of the area, resulting in decreased water quality, soil compaction, fish mortality, foam formation, and changes in water color and odor. These impacts negatively affect the ecosystem as a whole. It is concluded that the challenges in the environmental management of the municipality require an integrated approach with the local population to address the identified problems in the drainage basin of the Boqueirão reservoir.
