Resumen:
The present paper discusses the economic viability of the use of Indian type
biodigestor for energy production in Brazil’s northeastern rural areas. Informations used for
discussion were obtained from different sizes of biodigestor, and costs associated to each
size were identified and quantified. The cost estimation took into account the required
investments and operational costs according to the equipment characteristics. The results
indicate that the use of the biodigestor is economically viable and that the bio-gas produced
can be used as a substitute for PLG and diesel oil. However, no matters the size of the
biodigestor, bio-gas is not economically viable as a substitute for electric power in
properties already electrified.
