Abstract:
With the advancement of technology, society is increasingly generating more waste due to the
activities carried out on a daily basis. For a long time, this waste was disposed of inappropriately and
the same still happens today, being considered an inadequate form of final disposal of waste. solid
waste. The present work aims to identify the environmental impacts in the open-air dump-dump in
the municipality of Caicó-RN in order to propose mitigation and compensation measures. The
methodology used to develop this work was based on bibliographical research, field visits ,
photographic records, satellite images, software as well as the use of specific methodologies from the
bibliography that are fundamental for the assessment of environmental impacts: checklist method, ad
hoc method and interaction matrix. Through the interaction matrix in the operation and deactivation
phases and closure between activities and environmental components, it was possible to determine
that the physical, biotic and anthropic environments suffer significant impacts, with 51 impacts being
identified. The most significant impacts were: the inadequate disposal of solid waste and the burning
of garbage. Among the main measures indicated, the construction of the sanitary landfill stands out
as a measure to dispose of adequate solid waste, as well as not burning waste until the system is
deactivated.
