Abstract

This work studied a protection system based upon a low voltage surge arrester and a cascade protection for electric equipments that are very important at an agricultural area and which are frequently damaged by atmospheric surge transients. So two features were analysed: i) the efficiency of the cascade protection; ii) the location of low voltage surge arrester. It was observed that the location of surge arrester affected the surge levels; therefore the installation of a protection system requires a study of such a position and also the composition of the cascade protection.
