Resumo:
The educational process for hospitalized children, whether on a continuous, frequent
or long-term basis, faces significant and varied challenges, as it directly interferes with
their intellectual, academic, social and emotional development. For this reason,
offering the assistance of trained and specialized professionals in these places can be
extremely important, such as pedagogues, who can collaborate with the continuity of
children's development throughout the period they are undergoing treatment in
hospital. Considering this universe, the general objective of this research was to
investigate the educational activities carried out in a pediatric hospital in the
municipality of Cajazeiras, analyzing their potential and the obstacles they face. The
methodology chosen began with a bibliographical review, designed to contextualize
the topic and present its main aspects, followed by field research, with interviews with
the pedagogue at the Júlio Bandeira University Hospital in Cajazeiras-PB, as well as
two mothers with children admitted to the institution. The results of the survey showed
that the pedagogy professional is aware of the importance of hospital pedagogy and
the activities she can carry out, but that she faces some challenges related to the lack
of infrastructure and the lack of knowledge of the multidisciplinary team. As for the
mothers who took part in the research, they also showed that they recognized the
importance of pedagogical support for their children during the period in which they
were hospitalized, helping to ensure that their educational development continued to
be stimulated. It was concluded that the work of hospital pedagogues should be
increasingly encouraged and expanded in healthcare institutions for children
throughout the country, offering the necessary support and training, mainly as a way
of recognizing the countless contributions that this support offers to the continuity of
the intellectual development of hospitalized children and their well-being during this
period.
