Resumo:
The general objective of this research is to analyze the process of juvenilization of
students in Youth and Adult Education (EJA) and the specific objectives are to Identify
the reasons that have led young people to seek it out; to point out the factors that cause
adolescents and young people to fail at school in Regular Primary Education and to
describe how EJA has organized itself to deal with the process of juvenilization of its
students. The problem question of this research is: What are the factors that contribute
to the process of juvenilization of students who are currently part of the EJA teaching
modality? The methodology used was qualitative, based on field research. The
research data was collected from three elementary school students by means of semi-
structured interviews with nine questions. In the theoretical framework, we discussed
the process of juvenilization of these students as well as the trajectory of the EJA in
Brazil based on authors such as Freire (1997), Haddad and Di Pierro (2000), Freire
(2009), Schwartz (2012), Costa (2016), Santos (2017), Ferreira (s.d), Oliveira et al.
(2020). The results obtained in the analysis show that the process of juvenilization of
the EJA takes place through social, economic and educational problems that directly
affect the school development of these young people. Problems such as teenage
pregnancy, social vulnerability and discontinuation of studies were identified as the
main reasons for these young people dropping out of elementary school for the EJA.
