Abstract:
This work was carried out to evaluate the performance of a hydraulic ram
pump, operating with different input pipe materials for 1.5, 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0 m supply
heads and 1:2, 1:4, 1:6 and 1:8 h/H ratios. Maximum efficiencies reached were 52.6%,
44.3% and 33.0%, for PVC, steel and polyethylene pipe respectively. The highest
delivered volume were obtained with PVC input pipe, with larger increasing for smaller
supply heads. For maximum efficiency the corresponding h/H ratios was 1:6 for steel, 1:2
for polyethylene and from 1:8 to 1:6 for PVC.
