Abstract:
In this article, it is proposed to discuss reflections on the construction of Latin American identity and resistance from the analysis of the music video This is Not América, by the Puerto Rican Resident. In the introduction, the issue of Identity is addressed in the scenario of Modernity, Globalization and Hybrid Cultures, as well as notes are arranged regarding the use of the audiovisual as a historical source, which occurs in an expressive way from the 1970s, the period of emergence of the third generation of the Annales, called Nouvelle Historie. Next, it is discussed about the name and idea of Latin America, the identity formation and the current context of the identity crisis. In the third chapter, it is sought to map the profile of resistance created in Latin America and investigate this possible identity representation in the musical manifestations of the New Latin American Song Movement of the 1960s and 1970s. That said, in the last stage, we intend to draw parallels with the highlighted song facing it as a form of identity resistance against imperialist oppression and a weapon of social denunciation. The production of this text intends to offer a historical panorama and revive visibility, debate and understanding about socio-historical-cultural aspects of Latin America, especially when using audiovisual documentation as a source of analysis endowed with its own historicity given its intricate relationship with culture, memory and identity.
