Abstract:
A sensitivity analysis was performed, using the SIRMOD model, to verify the furrow length effect on the irrigation system performance, for a silt-clay-loam soil. It was used a set of published data from a field evaluation, done by Walker & Humpherys (1983). It was verified that for a silt-clay-loam soil, a discharge equal to 0.8 l/s, applied to furrows with length equal or superior to 120m, could have a considerable negative impact on the application efficiency. The negative effect of the furrow length on the deep percolation losses is much larger than the positive effect on the runoff losses.
