Food labeling is an important means of communication between consumers and products.
Information directly impacts individuals' food choices, whether or not it favors the purchase.
Given its role, it is necessary to comply with the legislation that governs it to guarantee its
efficiency. Considering that chocolate milk drinks are a food that is highly consumed by
children, their labeling must contain the necessary information to inform the consumer about
their content. Therefore, it is essential to analyze the labeling and nutritional quality of
chocolate milk drinks widely consumed by children. This is a descriptive cross-sectional
study carried out in supermarkets in Paraíba-PB, where chocolate-flavored dairy drinks were
analyzed. This is a descriptive cross-sectional study carried out in supermarkets in
Paraíba-PB, where chocolate-flavored dairy drinks were analyzed. To carry out the analysis of
labeling and nutritional quality, a checklist was prepared, which was based on resolutions
RDC No. 727 of July 1 2022, RDC No. 429, of October 8, 2020, IN No. 75, of October 8,
2020 IN No. 16 of August 23, 2005, and Law No. 10,674, of May 16, 2003. The data obtained
from the checklist were tabulated in Excel to enable statistical analysis. Through data
analysis, it was observed that there are irregularities in the product labels none of which were
shown to be completely adequate with the highest percentage of adequacy being 97.37% and
the lowest being 78.95%. Only Law No. 10,674 was 100% adequate in the labels analyzed.
Therefore it is essential that food industries adapt their labels in order to guarantee consumer
rights respecting the fundamental function of the link between consumer and product.
