Resumen:
Three soil tillage systems: P1 (disk plow plus disc harrowing twice), P2
(rotary tillage) and P3 (chisel plowing) combinated with four soil cover conditions: C1
(black oat), C2 (rye), C3 (forrage radish) and C4 (fallow), were evaluated over the
establishment of beans. The experiment was conducted in the municipality of Botucatu,
São Paulo State, Brazil, in 1993. Tillage systems P2 and P3 in combination with cover
crops C1 and C2 showed the highest soil cover levels and the highest bean plants
population on the thirty five days after planting. The hidric deficit circumstances ocurred
after bean planting evidenced the superiority of conservation tillage (P3C1 and P3C2) and
of rotary tillage combined with C1 and C2, for bean establishment.
