Abstract:
This work focuses on the engineering of wind energy conversion systems applied to the generation of electric energy for battery charging and water pumping. The coupling of loads in a wind system is studied by identifying the particularities of the intended applications in a given wind regime. Several control strategies are analyzed in order to maximize usable energy. A methodology of analysis composed of modeling of the various components of the system, determination of parameters and reduction of data was defined. The complexity of the characteristics of the various components suggests a careful study of the coupling in order to guarantee an adequate performance to the system. The experimental results, obtained by open field tests, are presented and compared with results from the digital simulation. The effect of the control of the auto-excitation of the alternator is evaluated in order to optimize the overall efficiency. The dynamic behavior of the wind pumping system is studied under various operating conditions, evaluating its performance in wind fluctuations and the electrical transients of motor switching.
