Resumen:
This study examines the impact of social media, particularly Instagram, onthe
spread of beauty standards and the self-image of plus-size women. Aiming to analyze
how these aesthetic standards influence self-esteem and body perception, the
research employs a qualitative and exploratory approachbased on a literature review.
The study investigates how Instagram, as avisual platform, intensifies the emphasis
on appearance while also serving as a space of resistance for plus-size influencers
who challenge traditional standards and promote acceptance of body diversity. The
research highlights the importance of plus-size influencers who use their platforms to
build support networks and encourage self-love in a digital environment that often
exalts unattainable ideals. It is noted that, although Instagram reinforces aesthetic
stereotypes, it also allows for the creation of inclusive communities that celebrate body
diversity. The findings indicate that despite advancementsin the representation of plus-
size women, resistance from the fashion industry and persistent stigmas around larger
bodies remain. Therefore, a commitmentfrom social media platforms and brands is
necessary to support inclusion and promote more diverse and authentic
representations that respect individuality and contribute to positive self-esteem.
