Resumen:
application of vacuum equipment in power systems, it is urgent to study the characteristics of rupture in vacuum gaps with voltage surges. This work verifies, practically, the influence of the curvature of the electrodes through the parameters, electric field and area. Using the hemispherical-plane configuration with atmospheric pulses and high-vacuum surges, the experimental results indicate that the electric field and the effective area of the cathode have an important function in the rupture, for small distances. For long distances, the phenomenon is much more complex and the process of rupture is quite irregular.
