Abstract

Stuffing materials generally used at anaerobic filters in domestic wastewater treatment are not frequently found at market easily, and in some country regions they cannot be purchased. Among these materials there are the plastic rings (Pall rings type) and the crushed stones. We intend to present proposals to solve the sanitary problem of the rural environment using the bamboo as a filter stuffing and the association of this kind of treatment with others commonly utilized as the septic tanks and cesspools. Researches with model reactors has been tested at Unicamp and the results has shown how promissing the use of this material could be, with a generation of a good quality treated effluent.
