Resumo:
To understand the healthcare team's care practice during newborn care in the
delivery room. Method: Qualitative, descriptive, observational study, carried out with 18
healthcare professionals linked to neonatal care, developed in a regional hospital unit in Paraíba,
from May to June 2024. The inclusion criteria were: all healthcare professionals directly
involved in newborn care in the delivery room; and exclusion criteria: professionals who do not
attend the interview after three consecutive appointments, and those who are on vacation and/or
leave at the time of data collection. A semi-structured interview script was used for data
collection. The data were processed using the software Interface de R pour les Analyses
Multidimensionnelles de Textes et de Questionnaires (Iramuteq), whose textual analysis
occurred through the Descending Hierarchical Classification (CHD), followed by Bardin's
Content Analysis. The aforementioned research project was approved by the Human Research
Ethics Committee of the Center for Education and Health of the Federal University of Campina
Grande, under opinion no. 6,699,794, and CAAE: 77262523.9.0000.0154. Results: In the
dendrogram, the analyzed theme obtained two axes, A and B. A presents a branch composed of
classes 6, with 50 ST (16.23%) and 1, with 60 ST (19.48%). Axis B has two branches and one
of the branches also has sub-branches, the first being composed of classes 5, with 39 ST
(12.66%) and 4, with 61 ST (19.81%) and the second composed of classes 3, with 52 ST
(16.88%) and 2, with 46 ST (14.94%). Next, two thematic categories were listed: Weaknesses
of the team in the organization, evaluation and execution of care for the newborn; and Obstacles
to qualified care for the newborn. Conclusion: It was possible to understand that the care
practice of the health team during care for the newborn in the delivery room has a series of
weaknesses related to the knowledge of the professionals both for the care of newborns with
good vitality and for those in need of resuscitation. Suggesting the carrying out of broader
studies, as well as the implementation of training programs, adherence to institutional protocols
guiding immediate, mediate and in need of resuscitation care.
