Resumo:
The National Solid Waste Policy addresses relevant principles and examples of prevention and
precautions for the management of waste to be handled by its generators in the most diverse
organizational sectors. In turn, these guidelines aim to improve transparency and responsibility
in monitoring environmental impacts. In this context, the general objective of this work was to
diagnose the environmental management of waste from the manufacturing process of an
industrial sweet shop in the backlands of Paraíba and its sustainable actions. And, the specific
proposals were: to characterize the stages of the production process of the industrial sweet shop;
identify, classify and measure the types of waste generated in agribusiness; check which
sustainable practices the enterprise carries out; and, propose improvements and/or other
possibilities for mitigating environmental management actions for reuse and/or final disposal,
in favor of cleaner production. The methodology adopted was characterized as a case study,
with an exploratory and descriptive approach. The work was submitted and approved by the
research ethics committee. The information collection instruments were: systematic
observation (on-site visit), semi-structured interview carried out with the manager of the
aforementioned enterprise, and characterization and classification of possible waste generated
within the internal scope of its process, and these were guided by current Brazilian legislation.
. The compiled results revealed that the enterprise already practices sustainable actions for
cleaner production (P+L), and adds value to the waste generated, selling it to other market
niches, such as animal feed and construction. The waste generated includes fruit peels and
seeds, ash, coal and gases from the boiler. However, despite the industry taking measures aimed
at cleaner P+L production, other strategies are proposed that can contribute to the agricultural
sector, such as the disposal of biochar and the product resulting from composting: organic
fertilizer. As well as transforming waste fruit peels and seeds into new food products such as
flour for the bakery segment. Finally, it was found that this industry works on its image,
strengthening it before society in the corporate world and becoming a differentiator when
compared to others in the same field of production, and always strives to optimize its
organizational system.
