Abstract:
Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease that affects a large part of the
world's population. It presents in pulmonary and extrapulmonary forms, the first being the
most publically relevant, supporting the transmission chain. TB treatment brings with it
numerous side effects, which sometimes lead the individual to abandon it, reducing its
efficiency. The work was carried out after the researcher suffered pulmonary TB, which
prompted her to research and report the reality of her process. Objectives: To report the
experience of a nursing student, resulting from suffering from Pulmonary Tuberculosis, with
an emphasis on the reality and challenges experienced from diagnosis to treatment.
Methodology: The present study consists of an experience report of a Bachelor of Nursing
student suffering from pulmonary TB. Results and Discussion: When affected by pulmonary
TB, there were many challenges faced. From fear and stigma to the therapeutic itinerary that
resulted in several side effects. Nursing assistance throughout this process was extremely
important, as there was direct monitoring by these professionals. Final considerations: The
study developed by the researcher contributes in several ways, both for health professionals
who will work directly and indirectly with these patients, and for individuals who go through
a similar process.
