Abstract

The research was conducted within the scope of the Specialization Course in Contextualized Education at UFCG and was developed at the Municipal School Presidente Vargas in the 6th/7th grade class of the EDUCARE Program, located in the municipality of Sumé – PB. Its general objective was to construct concept maps with elementary school students on the topic of family farming, highlighting the importance of this activity for the sustainability of the environment in which they are embedded. In this research, we used the premise of qualitative research through participatory research. The collected data were analyzed descriptively and interpretively, with the aim of presenting the characteristics or relationships existing in the actions carried out in the classroom through Participatory Research. We found that our pedagogical intervention was relevant to the students' learning, as they developed a better understanding of family farming through the production of concept maps in the classroom, resulting in critical, contextualized, reflective, and meaningful learning.
