Resumo:
Nature and its resources are spaces for learning and harmony. Socialising with nature
can be an ally of mental health, as this and human well-being are closely linked to the
state and quality of the environment. The research presents the experience of the
Sumé with Flowers Project, a university extension initiative that has been promoting
gardening, soil art therapy, horticulture and herb therapy activities with users of the
Psychosocial Care Centre in Sumé, Paraíba, for twelve years, in a proposal for soil
education and inclusion. Considering the interconnection between the themes of
Health, Environment, Nursery and Soil Education, this research aimed to present, as
an experience report, the impact of the activities developed by the Sumé with Flowers
Project in promoting well-being, social inclusion of users and encouraging care for
Nature, as a stimulus to actions for the CAPS in the municipality of Prata - PB. Every
week the participants are taken to the university campus seedling nursery where they
are welcomed by the project monitors. In collaborative activities aimed at socialising
and sharing experiences, organic fertiliser, succulents and vegetables are produced,
as well as workshops on painting with soil paint. The results observed reflect the
implications of the extension project in the lives of people facing some kind of mental
suffering, helping them to achieve recovery in a gradual and positive way, both in terms
of their mental health and their health.
